Our First Open Thread!

Oh, joy.

I have a question, tho:

How does one have a civil discussion with people who believe that Israel should be dissolved as a Jewish state or who habitually, and in the most acidic terms possible, blame everything I-P on Israel?

I honestly do not know what to do with that.

  1. So, here's what making nice accomplishes.

"Well, some posters should be frozen out........And, I have to say, it seems to have been pretty nice here as of late- what happened to all the trouble makers? It's like they just disappeared?

    How wonderful:)

A kick in the ass for being civil. This is the kind of thing that makes no sense on an alleged Democratic site. Damned if you do damned if you don't. And of course, this type of crap validates the need for a site like this since the message is clear that sticking up for Israel makes you a "trouble-maker," over there.

  2. This one really got me. Anyone see the diary by James Kroeger? Diary is full of mistatements of history and concludes that Israel should go back to 1967 borders, give money to Palestinians and Israel and the US should apologize.

And then in the comments he really shows his striped when he talks about how the 9-11 terrorists were pursuing just goals but in a morally reprehensible way.

  3. Guy's a moran. History is not a big thing to most Israel haters unless it's that Gramscian, post modern narrative crap.

And any goal that requires flying planes into towers and other places is NOT a goal worthy of consideration. Hugging trees is a good thing; hugging terrorists is BS.

  4. It's a game of moral equivalence.

Pretty much everything that the Palestinians do they accuse Israel of.

For example, if Hamas hides behind human shields then they accuse the IDF of hiding behind human shields.

If Hamas is a terrorist organization with a genocidal agenda then they accuse Israel of being a terrorist state carrying out genocidal agenda.

If Abbas refuses negotiations, then they accuse Israel of thwarting negotiations, and so forth.

I think the word may be "turnspeak."

  5. Oh, and btw, one of my favorite tactics is when you have people who claim to be "Zionists" or supporters of Israel, who do nothing but bash that country and support those who denigrate it.

There are a couple of people within dKos I-P who embody that tactic.

The only thing that I cannot figure out is whether they are lying to the rest of us or merely to themselves.

  6. So you'd figure that after the blood libel from Sweden, that smart people would lay low for awhile.

    NOT A CHANCE!!!!

"'Time': Israel behind Russian ship hijacking
The conspiracy theory which names Israel as the mastermind behind the mysterious hijacking of a Russian freighter in July appears to be gaining traction, with the European Union's rapporteur on piracy, Admiral Tarmo Kouts, expressing his support for that version of events."
